Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The food scene is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
