Best and worst neighborhoods in Gulfport

So, I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 5.6%, which is about average. It's a a smaller city city with about 72,533 people. Median household income is $46,044, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.
