Job market in Gulfport for tech?

Hey folks, I work in real estate and Rent is about $1,030/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 72,533 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Old Town area are challenging. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 54, moved here 2 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Riverside and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The walkability situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The safety is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Houston about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The school system is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..
