Relocating to Gulfport, MS -pros and cons?

Been living here since 2011. Poverty rate is 20.2%, which is higher than I expected. You can expect to pay around $1,030 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 5.6%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $167,100, which is actually reasonable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Let me know your thoughts. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Salt Lake City it's surprisingly good.
