OK so I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $46,044 in Gulfport. With a population of 72,533, Gulfport is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $167,100, which is actually reasonable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cheers. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 54, moved here 7 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Westside and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited shopping options
3. The traffic situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 6 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the West side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
