Hello, I'm retired and Poverty rate is 59.4%, which is higher than I expected. With a population of 5,333, Gu--nica zona urbana is a small town. Household incomes average around $14,772 in Gu--nica zona urbana. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely solid and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 4 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Charlotte about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.
