So, I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Gurnee sits at 131.2 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is underrated in most areas.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Moved here from Chicago about 2 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to pet-friendliness but Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Fairview for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The community vibe scene is solid
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..
