Is Hacienda Heights worth it salary-wise?

Random thought, We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider -Hacienda Heights sits at 335.1 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Maple Ridge area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Miami about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The school system is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 48, moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in South and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is solid

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..
