Housing market in Hackettstown right now

Curious what people think. I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $337,100, which seems about average. It's a a small town city with about 10,143 people. The unemployment rate is 5.5%, which is about average. Rent is about $1,419/month for a decent place. With a population of 10,143, Hackettstown is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- Limited nightlife
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Any advice would be great. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Uptown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The walkability scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is average in most areas.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 3 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
