Moving to Halfway -what should I know?

Hey, We have two kids and Rent is about $1,183/month for a decent place. With a population of 10,974, Halfway is a small town. Median household income is $69,600, which feels about average for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Halfway sits at 649.8 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to San Diego it's hit or miss.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
