Is public transit usable in Halifax?

Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $56,111, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in West for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
- The community vibe scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 28, moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Uptown and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for retirees. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2018 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in North for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The housing market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in The Heights for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..
