Best kept secrets of Hamilton, OH

Longtime lurker here, The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. With a population of 63,124, Hamilton is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $974 for rent here. Median household income is $54,293, which feels on the lower side for the area. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I've lived in Highland for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Sunset area are tough. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 58, moved here 6 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Lakewood and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 10 years. Moved from Tampa for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited shopping options. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
