Hammond is underrated, change my mind

Random thought, I'm a teacher here and Household incomes average around $53,950 in Hammond. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thanks for reading. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Seattle about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.
