Anyone else noticing rent going up fast in Hammond? Over the last year, I feel like prices went up at least 10-15%. I'm paying $1089 for a studio which feels okay for the area.
Are there any neighborhoods that are still affordable? Thinking about moving to a cheaper area.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

I've lived in Highland Park for 13 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Old Town and Riverside are perfectly safe.

As someone who moved here from LA, I can confirm most of this. The friendliness of people surprised me the most.

Been here 20 years. The city has changed a lot but overall for the better.

I'd add that the parks here are amazing for families. Otherwise spot on!
