What I wish I knew before living in Hampton Bays

Military spouse here. Median household income is $129,080, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $129,080 in Hampton Bays. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Chain restaurants dominate
What would you do? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Atlanta it's improving.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The weather scene is solid

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 30, moved here 8 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Westside and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Bugs and humidity in summer
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cost of living situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Sunset for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The healthcare scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for family and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The cost of living is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Hope this helps!.
