Dog-friendly places in Hampton?

I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $67,758 in Hampton. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much wild but now it's challenging.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a chef and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 58, moved here 4 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Old Town and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Property taxes are high
3. The safety situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 12 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into running, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 24, moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Old Town and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The public transit situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
