Thinking about relocating to Hampton from St. Louis

Hey everyone, Homes are going for about $234,100 on average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely improving and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
