Moving to Hamtramck with kids -good idea?

Alright, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. Rent is about $907/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Old Town) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
