OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

I've been here 11 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

I've been in Fairview for 1 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
