Not sure if this has been asked before, but Median household income is $39,844, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a a small town city with about 1,576 people. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Worth the trade-offs? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Uptown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The dating scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
