Moving from Nashville to Harker Heights next month

Been living here since 2015. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Harker Heights sits at 199.8 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Does this match your experience? The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in construction. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 14 years. Moved from Chicago for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Can feel isolated. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to New York it's underrated.

I've lived in Old Town for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The food scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..
