Random thought, The unemployment rate is 8.0%, which is concerning. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

I'm a electrician and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for school and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Midtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Springfield area are underrated. Kids love it here.
