Harrisburg quality of life -am I missing something?
I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider -Harrisburg sits at 113.5 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Uptown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Baltimore it's decent.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
