Is Harrison getting better or worse?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $1,001,900, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $2,585/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $1,001,900 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. TIA! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is pretty good in most areas.
