Not sure if this has been asked before, but I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 51,492, Harrisonburg is a smaller city. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
