Is Harrisonburg still affordable?

Hi all, I'm a college student here and It's a a smaller city city with about 51,492 people. The median home value here is around $278,200, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. Median household income is $59,752, which feels about average for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
