Is it worth buying in Harrisonburg?

Alright, Homes are going for about $278,200 on average. Rent is about $1,120/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,120 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
- Homelessness issues downtown
Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is tough in most areas.

I work in retail here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is challenging. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 12 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Bugs and humidity in summer. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
