Is Hartford still affordable?

Curious what people think. Rent is about $1,095/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Hartford sits at 64.7 per 100K. Homes are going for about $261,300 on average. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What are your go-to spots? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 6 years. Moved from Phoenix for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Far from beaches/mountains. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
