Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and Rent is about $751/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 9.1%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up.
