Commute times in Harvey -how bad?

Average temperature is around 70--F, so it's warm year-round. Poverty rate is 24.0%, which is higher than I expected. It's a a small town city with about 21,710 people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Has anyone dealt with this? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The food scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 5 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited high-paying job options. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
