Moving from Phoenix to Hastings next month

Curious what people think. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Hastings sits at 171.3 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 22,050 people. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Should I be concerned?

I've lived in Midtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The traffic scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The safety is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Dallas about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Highland) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
