The good and bad of living in Hastings

Hey folks, Been living here since 2008. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,184/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in South area are average. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Midtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The job market scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
