Hastings housing prices -when will it stop?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a remote worker and Crime rate is something to consider -Hastings sits at 181.6 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a electrician and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Uptown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
- The community vibe scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 15 years. Moved from San Diego for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Far from beaches/mountains. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
