Housing market in Hastings right now

Homes are going for about $177,200 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in hospitality here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 3 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The pet-friendliness scene is solid

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 31, moved here 8 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Old Town and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
