Is Haverstraw worth it salary-wise?

Random thought, I'm a teacher here and Median household income is $67,447, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 13.2%, which is around average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.
