I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:

Background: I'm a writer, 31, moved here 14 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in East and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cost of living situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**

- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (West) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
