What's it really like living in Hawthorn Woods?

Curious what people think. I'm single, late 50s, and Household incomes average around $238,114 in Hawthorn Woods. Crime rate is something to consider -Hawthorn Woods sits at 23.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $592,800 on average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited dining options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in tech. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

No regrets on my end..

I work in real estate here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is challenging. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much developing but now it's excellent.
