Anyone regret moving to Hawthorne?

Curious what people think. I'm retired and Homes are going for about $813,700 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here? Cheers. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 7 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 45, moved here 6 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Uptown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The walkability situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
