Hi all, Military spouse here. With a population of 1,355, Hays is a small town. The median home value here is around $158,900, which is actually reasonable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services.
