Hayward housing prices — when will it stop?

The median home value here is around $820,700, which is pretty steep. Homes are going for about $820,700 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Springfield area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 8 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely tough and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (The Heights) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
