Hayward in the winter — how bad?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $2,360/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $113,775 in Hayward. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Riverside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..
