The good and bad of living in Hayward
We have two kids and Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Anyone in a similar situation?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Dallas about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is decent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..
