Cost of living reality check -Hayward

Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Cheers.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like seafood.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Boston about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Miami about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..
