Random thought, Rent is about $1,665/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 8.3%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Let me know your thoughts. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in government. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Italian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 6 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
