So, Any advice would be great. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 9 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I'm a social worker and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
No regrets on my end..

- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Minneapolis about 2 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in West area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.
