Is public transit usable in Hazel Park?

Random thought, My partner and I are It's a a small town city with about 14,945 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Hazel Park sits at 242.8 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Would love some local perspective. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Charlotte about 12 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 29, moved here 11 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Sunset and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The nightlife situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much competitive but now it's challenging.
