Is Hazelwood worth it salary-wise?

We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider -Hazelwood sits at 449.4 per 100K. The weather takes some getting used to. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Came here for family and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The weather is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 24, moved here 9 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Cedar Grove and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The nightlife situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.
