Curious what people think. I'm single, late 30s, and Rent is about $956/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 13.1%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $154,900 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What do you all think? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'm a sales manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Came here for weather and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The safety is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in West for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong sense of community
- The public transit scene is average
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Westside for 7 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is average - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Chain restaurants dominate. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The weather is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
