Jackson Young housing

Housing in Hazleton compared to Memphis

Household incomes average around $43,379 in Hazleton. Median household income is $43,379, which feels on the lower side for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I wrong here? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 14 years. Moved from Seattle for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is tough - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited shopping options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Dallas it's hit or miss.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much growing but now it's improving.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 37, moved here 8 years ago from Boston. I've lived in The Heights and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The housing market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 13 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
