How is Hazleton for outdoor activities?

Random thought, The food scene here is surprisingly good. What do you all think? The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely hit or miss and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 50, moved here 10 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in East and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The public transit situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..
